Castles of Alicante, witness great battles

The white coast is steeped in history, art and tradition region. Among her Alicante (One of the three provinces of Valencia), which due to its advantageous strategic position, has witnessed great battles.

We invite you to take a trip by car through the main castles and fortresses, whose stones take us to a time of bloody fighting between Muslims and Christians.

Castillo de Elda

The route starts in Elda, visiting the castle located next to the river Vinalopó. In it preserved part of its walls, a semicircular tower and a rain tank.

Castillo de Petrer

We visited the nearby town of Petrer him and his castle, built in the late twelfth century by the Arabs and noted for its double crenellated walls and great tower.

Castillo de Sax

Castillo de la Mola

The next point is Novelda, where you must visit the Castillo de la Mola. What stands out from this castle is its triangular tower, called Tower of the Three Peaks and was built after the castle. The Castle is located near the Sanctuary of the Magdalena, a religious building designed by a disciple of Gaudí.

Castillo del Río

Our route continues to the Castillo del Rio, located 4 km from Monforte del Cid. It is about the early settlement of Aspe twelfth century and are now in semi ruin.

Embalse de Tibi

Through Agost, famous for its pottery, we Tibi, ventured into the Sierra del Maigmó. In this municipality we find a reservoir dating from the sixteenth century and is considered the oldest in Europe still in use.

Castillo de Castalla
